"Renacer" is a composition by my former double bass teacher: Elvis Martínez (one the finest musicians from Venezuela!)

He dedicated this piece to the healing of his only son, who was metaphorically reborn after being at the border of death while still being a child. "Renacer" means "Rebirth" in Spanish. The piece is in Venezuelan Waltz style, that is, a very marked 3-beats rhythm but a melody full of syncopations, off-beat accents and hemiolas.

We premiered it with my own Jazz quartet having himself on bass and Luis Alfredo "Luki" Zambrano on flugelhorn on 2015. Later I released this solo piano version in 2021.
